I got to participate in Caleb's Thanksgiving Day celebration at school today. The class had a full day of fun activities.

Making Johnny Cakes. They even crushed corn with 2 large rocks just like the Pilgrims. (Although we did use corn meal to actually make the cakes!)

Imagining what it must have been like to have been aboard such a crowded ship like the Mayflower.

Making ships and using water bottles mixed with baby oil to get a sense for how rocky the boat ride would have been.

The homework assignment last night was to pack a pillowcase of 5 things Caleb would take on the Mayflower. Of course he chose his Nintendo DS, Bible, notepad, crayons, and his Jiu-Jitsu DVD. When I asked him what he was going to do when the battery on his DS ran out Caleb told me playing the DS would be breaking the rules because you are not allowed to play the DS at school. I kept trying to remind him he was supposed to pretend he was going on the Mayflower. I asked him a similar question about the DVD... how was he going to play it? Caleb quickly got impatient with me and exclaimed, "Mom! We're not
really going on the Mayflower!"

Turkey treats... I did the eyeballs and the kids got to decorate the tail feathers with the candy corn.

Mr. Myers' 1st grade Pilgrims. So cute!
