I am always looking for ways to 'encourage' Emilie to stop sucking her thumb and most recently thought I had it all figured out. Emilie loves pink nail polish and I had just gotten her a new bottle last night. By the time she got it, it was too late to put it on her nails. So we decided she would wake up early so we could paint her nails before school.
I have never seen Emilie hop out of bed as quickly as she did this morning! I was especially excited when she seemed to accept that she couldn't suck her thumb if she had nail polish on. At first she asked if I could paint all nails except the thumb.. but when I told her it was all or nothing.. she agreed to proceed. All was going well until 5 minutes after her nails dried. Emilie ran up to me hopping around all excited... I thought she had to go to the bathroom. Instead she blurted out, "I like my thumb-y better! Take it off! Take it off!!"
