Showing love to others

Caleb and Emilie each have calendar books which we use as their sticker books. On a monthly basis we set "goals" for them... usually 4 or 5 things we want them to work on daily. And if they successfully accomplish a goal- they get a sticker. Once they accumulate 25 stickers- they get to pick a treasure out of the Treasure Chest. We fill up the Treasure Chest with toys they want.... so when we go to the store and they see a toy they want we might get it but it goes straight to the Treasure Chest for them to earn.

Caleb has a tendency to just ignore people when they talk to him or not say hello to his friends when he gets to school. So this month, one of his goals is to show love to others.

The last few days I have been so pleasantly surprised by Caleb's thoughtfulness towards me. He has been taking the time to ask if I need anything before he leaves the room I am sitting in or coming by to ask how I am feeling (I have been home sick with the whooping cough this week). Yesterday I had my greasy hair pulled back in a bun and hadn't bothered to put on any makeup. As we were sitting down for dinner he looked at me and said- "Mommy, you look beautiful". Talk about melting my heart! I couldn't stop thinking about how lucky I was to have such a sweetheart of a son.

Tonight he came home from school and right away gave me a hug and a kiss. He asked me if I was feeling any better. After we talked for a short bit he went into the other room where Josh was and I overheard him ask, "I just showed love to Mommy. Can I have my sticker now?"

Oh well- no matter his reason for showing me love... he melts my heart and I still think he is a sweetheart!
