So hard to believe but Caleb's first day of Kindergarten arrived today. Caleb goes every day from 1-3:30 and going forward his daycare will transport him. Today however, I got to be a part of it all which was awesome. I had promised Caleb we would have a special lunch before Kindergarten and he could pick wherever he wanted to go. #1 pick- Chuck E Cheese.
The visit to Chuck E Cheese didn't go quite as planned... I was not feeling well and ended up running late. By the time I got everyone ready, dropped Emilie off at daycare, and were on our way to CEC... we only had 30 minutes to run in, order, play and eat. I really wanted to make sure Caleb had his special lunch so we decided to go for it. We had a great time playing games and Caleb even got to pick out a few prizes. It was going so well except for the food... I didn't realize there were 2 huge birthday parties going on and our order got stuck behind theirs. So our small cheese pizza took 45 minutes to cook. Ugghhh....
We packed up our pizza to go and ate the pizza in the car on the way to being 20 minutes late to one of his biggest moments in life... first day of Kindergarten. I felt like such a great mom. I already have paranoid moments of jipping my kids of a "great mom" because I work full time... but then to do this to him.....
I tried my best not to act stressed... as much as I want Caleb to know the importance of being timely, I really wanted this first day to be special for him. I wanted him to have happy memories... not memories of his mother flipping out. He was great... relaxed as always and such a joy! He thoroughly enjoyed his pizza to go and carried on a lively conversation. When he stepped out of the van at school he took my breath away. Such a handsome boy! All the stress just melted away at that moment.
The day ended up being great... he went with his classmates and I joined the other moms for our orientation with his teacher, Mrs. Williams. (What an amazing blessing she is... that is a whole 'nother blog in itself!) The other moms were incredibley generous and made me feel right at home and even shared with me their "failures" for the day. I know the day was meant for Caleb- but what a reassurance it was for me. Reassurance that Caleb will get a biblically based education on a daily basis and reassurance that despite my shortcomings Caleb is an amazing child of God's and I can't destroy that.
