When I grow up....

When eating out, Caleb & Emilie's primary concern in choosing a restaurant is not the quality of food but rather the quality of the toddler toy. Even if they already have 10 of the same thing- the adventure of getting a toy at the end of their meal is quite a thrill.

The Mi Refugio student's definition of generosity (giving your best) is something I think of often and was a topic of conversation within our family when I first returned in June. Caleb & Emilie tried to embrace the meaning of generosity and decided to save all future toddler toys for the Guatemala students in September. I was really excited by this effort from the kids- I knew how much getting a toddler toy meant to them and understood what a sacrifice this was. The last month has been tough though- so far we have 6 toddler toys saved ... the first 2 went easily but the last 4 have been a struggle. They both battled with the desire to keep the toys and there were several long discussions around what to do with the toys... keep them or save them for the Guatemala kids. They are still moving forward with the effort although Emilie keeps asking how much longer until September is over and she can keep a toy. :)

We were on our way home from church today listening to music when Caleb started to speak.

"Mommy- when I get big I still want to be a policeman but maybe I will be a builder. I'll build big buildings in Guatemala for the kids. But I won't just build big buildings- I'll also be a toy maker. So I'll build the buildings and make one a toy store and I'll be the maker so the Guatemala kids can have toys and places to live. But I don't know- I'm still little and have a long while before I get big. I'm just saying maybe..."

I pray that Caleb will keep his heart open to God's desire for his life. Whether he ends up being a policeman, a builder, or a cowboy- I know God has incredible adventures in store for this precious boy and I can't wait to see it all unveiled. I am so thankful to be a witness to the adventures. Thanks for being a part of it all!
