The Crazy Mom....

I realized last month that I have officially turned into one of those crazy moms and made a mental note to keep the craziness in check. We had just received one of Caleb's kindergarten admission packets (at the time Josh and I had not yet decided on a school for Caleb and were researching several in town). The packet was very nicely organized in a great presentation folder and there was even a business card for our assigned assistant admissions director on the inset. The card looked very professional with the school logo and his name in fancy font. Then I noticed underneath his name the line " Village Academy Alumni 2003". Now I'll admit it took me a moment but soon after reading this it hit me... Village Academy only goes up to grade 12.... which means this guy had only been out of college for 1 year. So basically a boy fresh out of puberty was handling the educational future of my precious first born. I flipped out for about 30 minutes ranting and raving about how I found it impossible to believe that this "child" had the credentials or experience to manage my son's kindergarten admission. Fortunately it was around this time that reality finally started to settle in. This was kindergarten.... that was probably why this guy was assigned to us. I mean seriously... basically all this guy has to ask is.. "Can you pay the tuition? Yes? Ok... Congratulations and Welcome to Village Academy!" After that incident I thought I had my Crazy Mom mode in check..... but it popped back tonight.

The kids and I went to the mall to meet my friend Alli for dinner in the food court. The kids wanted Chick-fil-A because it was the only place in the mall with toddler toys (a very important criteria for meal selection). The poor kid behind the counter was stumbling through his first night on the job and had no experience with a Crazy Mom. When I asked him for the Boz book for Ems and Narnia book for Caleb as the toddler toy selection... he gave me a blank stare and proceeded to grab whatever was closest. Now I'll be the first to admit that I am a complete head shaking, eyebrow raising, "Oh No He Just Di-dn't!"attitude kinda gal... which I try to keep on the down low but mess with my kid's happiness and there is no holding back. What Josh likes to refer to as my "Manager Mode" came out in full swing and I gave the kid a lesson in exceeding customer expectations I doubt he will ever forget. Now please realize it sounds worse then it really was... all for good story telling purposes... No one was waiting in line while I made him get me the books requested... I could see the requested books on the shelf.... and I was very polite with him (and eventually his team leader) but I will admit his jaw was dropped and he had a bit of an incredulous expression on his face by the time I walked away with meals, Boz, and Narnia in hand.

By the time I got to the table where the kids and Alli were waiting on me I realized Crazy Mom had made another appearance. Other than joking about my craziness and the poor kid who had to deal with me tonight with Alli... I didn't think too much about the incident until I came home and saw my bible study book, "He Speaks to Me" by Priscilla Shirer on the table. It is a wonderful study which talks about having simple childlike faith and preparing to hear from God. My study this morning was about putting no other god in front of Him.... and how that god could be anything from sleep to other relationships. It made me think about how quickly and fiercely I will fight for my children's well being and happiness... but yet when it comes to His desires how often do I drag my feet? My prayer tonight is that God will redirect my craziness toward Him. I will also be saying a prayer for the Chick-fil-A kid... hopefully I haven't made him decide to not return to work tomorrow. And for those of you wondering... no need to say a special prayer for the Village Academy admission director... he never had to deal with me because we decided on Worthington Christian. But you might want to throw out some words to God about the WC staff... they are going to need it to deal with me for the next 12 years.

So all in all we had a great evening with Alli. A little bit of food... a little bit of shopping... a little bit more food... and a little bit of play ground time... how could it not be good? Ems, Alli, and I had a fun time at Macy's dressing Ems up as Madonna. We found this crazy bright, shiny, cropped, red patent leather jacket with gold zippers in the toddler section. Yes! The toddler section! Talk about craziness! Though I would never buy it for Ems.. we couldn't resist having fun with it. We found a great 80's polka dot skirt with pink tulle underneath it and some pearl necklaces / dangle bracelets / big bowed headband to go along with it. And ummmm.. yes... for those of you wondering... I did say Macy's.... where people normally buy clothes instead of playing dress up.....

We stopped at the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory
after some shopping to get a chocolate covered apple.
As a side note... the kids are holding their Boz and Narnia books :)

Ems as Madonna! You know I love that one. We used to do that crazy stuff with Whitney all the time...enjoy it while you can as they become teenagers oh so fast!

I so get a laugh out of the fact you have crazy Mom tendencies - oh the things we do to make our babies happy!
